Breathtakingly wild and mysterious, Upper Svaneti is an ancient land in North Western Georgia along the southern slopes of Greater Caucasus mountains, so remote that it was never tamed by any ruler. We will be hiking for 70 kilometers over a period of five days deep into the Upper Svaneti Region starting from the village of Mestia and finishing our hike at the impressive Shkhara glacier. Staying in local homestays and guesthouses we will experience a way of life that has changed very little for centuries.

Uniquely picturesque villages, snow-covered 4000m-plus peaks, rivers of crystal-clear glacial melt water and flower-strewn alpine meadows provide a superb backdrop to our week of hiking in Upper Svaneti.

Georgians believe that a guest is a gift from God, and they treat their guests much like royalty. When a person is invited to a Georgian home, they are offered food and drink every few minutes, whether the guest is staying for the evening or much longer. The host will insist that you eat and drink as much as you can, especially if you have an empty plate, and they’re happy for you to stay for as long as you like!
